Blind Squirrels

Occasionally, even a blind squirrel will find a nut.  This page is dedicated to those lousy public officials who occasionally will do a good deed that leaves those of us that are both insiders and in the mainstream, scratching their heads wondering how it could have happened.

County Executive Scott Walker

  • After cutting the 2003 budget for the Day Reporting Center, a cost effective rehabilitation program which received matching funds (80% federal, 20% county), Walker pledged not to veto a County Board budget amendment to restore funding.  Board actions resulted in long term savings through reduced convict recidivism.
  • Putting the budget online at least until the board approved it. This allows the public and the media easy access to the budget process in county government.
  • Despite his nearly unquenchable propensity to hire political cronies, Walker hired a great non-partisan Parks Director in Sue Black.

"We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home".
